Getting Ready for the Vermont Professional Photographers Annual Convention!

The clock just rolled past midnight and I am now in the wee hours of Saturday morning, getting ready to head to the VPP annual convention in Manchester, VT. I’m looking forward to a fun, education packed week. The one event that is giving me a few butterflies in my tummy is the print competition. This is really the first time that I’ll be entering the statewide competition, so I’m not quite sure what to expect. In addition to the print competition, guest lecturers, and social time, I’ll be starting my term as a Vice President for the Board of Directors. For the next year I’ll be taking on the job of Convention Chair. Ok, maybe there’s something else that’s giving me butterflies in my tummy. I’m part of a great team though and I look forward to adding a plethora of new skills to my bag.

So, you wanna know what’s sitting in my print case right now, ready to sit on an easel while a panel of judges scrutinizes every detail? Well, here you go… for competition these have been printed to 16″x20″, permanently mounted, and finished.

I’d love to know which is your favorite image and why. Of course, to be fair and objective, I should also point out that I’d love to hear any criticisms that you may have. Add your comments below and stay tuned to see how well they scored!

**UPDATE** My prints were scored today and I’ve included the scores with the titles. I’m a bit tired right now, so I’m not going to explain the scoring. I was hoping for an 80 or above, and I was really hoping that 2 more of them would make it over that mark, but I have some tweaking to do with them. Thank you all for responding! I certainly learned a TON from watching and helping with the print comp all day today. I am quite happy to have my prints displayed among many exceptional images.

Of course you do know which is my favorite one. But all of them are good photos. I just don’t look at them with the same eye as the judges! Good boy beats them all, but so would any that had Tristan or Gavin or either of my beautiful children in them! Some people naturally brighten a photo, and it just so happens that all of my family fall into that category!

Best of luck- Can’t wait to see the actual prints! :)

Kelly,
I like all of them as well but I have to agree with your Mom that Good Boy is probably the best. It has great composition and has an endearing quality with the “boy and his dog” (plus stuffed animal!) idea. I also have a special fondness for black & white photography even if I love Pierre for all of his colorful glory! Good luck and let us know what happens.
