Leisl! :: Vermont Cat Photographer

As with many professions, photographers often look to each other for inspiration, education, a sympathetic ear, laughter, and friendship. I am lucky to count photographers among my friends and because seeing is our passion we often spend time together photographing and helping each other learn new techniques. We also act as family photographers for each other. When I decided that I wanted portraits with my dog, Meeko, I knew I wanted my good friend Kathleen Porter of North Photography to be my photographer. She did an excellent job of capturing our bond this past fall and I treasure the images more than she can imagine.

Today I got the opportunity to photograph Leisl, the fur baby of Kathleen (aka Kaht) and her husband, Devin. I was looking forward to our little session, even after the exhaustion of Home Fur the Holidays.  I had already met Leisl and adored him for his awkward dignity. He’s definitely a cat’s cat and everything is on his terms. Including his photo shoot. I’ll let his photos tell the story…

Leisl started out as a peaceful retaliator. But the allure of the soft, warm blankie and feather toy soon overcame him.

Soon he was totally hamming it up and making his mommy and daddy proud.

What, doesn

What, doesn't every cat have a catnip birdie handmade by their mommy?

Leisl's objection to the blankie in the chair had us rolling with laughter. Turns out he didn't like all the lumps.

At the end of the session a little whipped cream provided a satisfying, if not slightly messy, treat. Leisl was appeased.

Thank you Kaht and Devin for having me over on this grey, rainy day for laughter, lunch, and Leisl! I know you were terribly worried that he’d embarrass you, but when it came right down to it he just couldn’t resist the treats, toys, and catnip. His many facial expressions are going to keep me laughing for a long, long time. I think he totally deserves his Tickle Pickle as an early Christmas present:)

Peace and Furballs,

Ooooh Kelly!! I love them!! I was at the vet when the email came through and had to show them to everyone :) The vet was most impressed that this growling black furball would actually sit for pictures! :) I told her many tricks were used to calm the savage beast :) Thank you so much!!! You rock. :)

We are so proud of our “grandcat.” Maybe if we are lucky Kaht and Devin will present us with a formal photo for Xmas!
